Russell Findlay, Top Scottish Tory Candidate, Backs Liz Truss for Prime Ministership

Scottish Tory presidential candidate Russell Findlay enthusiastically supports Liz Truss’s candidacy to be Prime Minister.

The leader in the Scottish Tory leadership contest anxiously supports the catastrophic Liz Truss as Prime Minister.

In a rapturous tweet posted in the month of August 2022, Russell Findlay showered admiration upon an “authentic” right-wing Republican.
The Western of Scotland MSP also called on Tory members to back her, saying, “In Liz, we trust.”

The SNP claimed Findlay’s backing for a Tory generally considered to serve as the UK’s weakest historic PM “speaks everything about his judgments and values.”.

Scottish Labour warned the sponsorship “tells them all you require to know concerning the man’s electoral judgment.”
Truss almost ruined the economy throughout her brief tenure as the prime minister but was forced to leave after just a few months in the post.

Her short stint in government witnessed a disastrous mini-budget of underfunded tax cuts among the wealthiest that drove the markets into chaos.

Experts claim the budget measures, which were abandoned following an uproar, aggravated the cost of living situation by raising interest rates and inflation.

Truss became PM after beating Rishi Sunak in the cabinet race scheduled when Boris Johnson left in 2022.

Findlay, whom served as the Scottish Tory court spokeswoman, was gung-ho in declaring his backing for Truss.

He tweeted a video of himself addressing outside Paisley Abbey on August 19, 2022, with the description, “Why I’m supporting #LizForLeader #RussForTruss.”

He continued, “This week, two of the contestants for the office of Republican leader and the next prime minister landed in Perth.
“outside of the location, we all heard the ugly expression of nationalist that shames Scotland. “Inside, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak give forth their hopeful views for the UK.

“Being the mother who spoke to both of them, I am supporting Liz for PM.”
He held out a bag for the photographer, which looked to contain his vote paper.

He exclaimed, “She is enthusiastic and authentic. She’s dedicated to helping families overcome the worldwide cost-of-living crisis. “She recognizes the power of the UK, and she knows what it needs to hold opposing Nicola Sturgeon and Keir Starmer.”

“Throughout our chat the previous day, we spoke regarding the Clyde Green Terminal bid. “Liz also informed me she’s excited to visit us again in Paisley, where they spent part of her youth, and I want to welcome her.

“Our newest PM is a person who should be ignored. “In Liz, we trust.”

Findlay, who was elected in 2021, is largely seen as the frontrunner to succeed Douglas Ross but does not yet registered his candidacy.
Ross declared during the upcoming election campaign that he was resigning after encountering anger for replacing hospitalized David Duguid with his Westminster candidate.

Kenneth Gibson, SNP, MSP, criticized Findlay for endorsing Truss.

He said: “Liz Truss wrecked the UK economy, sending mortgage bills soaring through the sky, and will only always be recognised for her terrible mistake as Prime Minister. “For Mr. Findlay to have put his faith in her says something about his expertise and values, although they are not common to Scotland.

“No matter who is next to head the Tories in Scotland, they will never forget being the party that imposed fourteen decades of austerity on the public sector, forced Scotland to withdraw from the EU against our will, and mishandled the economy so terribly that Scottish families are still suffering from sky-high expenses.”

Scottish Labour interim leader Jackie Baillie stated the Scottish Tories “are in a downward spiral.”.

She remarked, “That Russell Findlay heartily backed Liz Truss as Prime Minister tells you everything you need to know about the man’s political judgment. “The basic reality lies in the fact the Scottish Tories have fallen into a downward spiral.

“While the Tories quarrel and struggle over the deadly chalice of the administration, Scottish Labour is concentrating on working for the individuals of Scotland.”

Findlay had been a journalist before beginning on his political career as a Tory MSP.

Fellow Scottish Tory Douglas Lumsden, who has put himself up as Findlay’s running companion, also endorsed Truss in the Tory leadership race.

The north-east MSP labeled Truss a “child of unity.” He also praised her ideas to lower taxes on the rich.

Just an entire week before Truss stepped down, without the economy already failing, Lumsden termed demands for her to quit “ridiculous. “.
The then PM had previously apologized for “mistakes made” and thrown away her chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng.

Lumsden went to her defense: “She’s recognized she made the wrong choice. She didn’t simply keep her head covered in the sand. “She has acknowledged that and altered things. Surely that’s why citizens would demand from their leaders? “That if they’ve committed a mistake, they bring their sleeves up and repair it, not simply keep dogmatically adhering with the strategy that they have.”

Findlay refused to respond.
